My Creativity ToDo List

Chillin'

I have missed my blog, reading other awesome your wonderful comments, and generally being creative. While I have been busy, it’s nice to get back to doing what makes me smile while expressing myself!

One thing I was glad to catch upon re-acquainting myself with the blogging world was this great little post about creativity from Alli Rense. It came at a really timely moment for me – I was starting to feel calmer and more creative and, you know what? Writing a little Creativity ToDo List is just what I need :D

Have I been stuck? Yep. But the fog is lifting. Hooray! So many things I want to do, so a list can help me keep it easy. Like Alli, I’ll limit myself to 5 creative things…

My Creativity ToDo List:

  1. Finish all blue points on the Star Anise Blanket
  2. Sew an awesome office dress
  3. Complete and frame my 15 year old cross-stitch
  4. Self-publish my Annual Book
  5. Draw a still life

There are some project-style things there, but progress makes me just as happy as a finished thing!

Bring on winter!
:D

Treatment: Creativity.

Why hello there! There have been far too little action in this part of the woods these last few months. I have come out of hibernation just in time for winter, which means more progress on the Star Anise Blanket!! But before we start on that kind of loveliness and despite my silence these last few months, there is some creative news to update one on.

If 2012 was the year of change, I don’t know what you’d call 2013. I left my job in March and have been traveling, then found out all that time I was getting sick! Hooray for diagnosis! So now I am getting better and finding a new job, after enjoying some travel and time off, of course.

After leaving my job, we set off for Tokyo. Third time lucky – This time I actually saw the cherry blossoms!! They are really as beautiful as everyone says they are.

Sight-seeing around Tokyo was fun – and exhausting…

So the days were usually finished off like this:

Relax...

Travelling north to visit my old host family in Hokkaido revealed that some parts of Japan are not even considering spring yet:

Hokkaido, Japan

But the geese still go for a swim!

We had sushi-making and karaoke with my host family…

Sushi!

Then it was back to down south-east to Kyoto and Okayama for Shandii’s Wedding… when I find my camera there might be some pics from that!

Saying goodbye to Japan, we met up with a fellow travelling friend and went to Malaysia…

KLCC and the KL Towers, Kuala Lumpar Malaysia

…obligatory sight-seeing from the hotel window… and discovered Nilai-3… so… much… fabric…

Fabric from Nilai-3 Wholesale District, Malaysia

Then on to my old favourite Kamdar. Look at the lace!

I think I came home with about 11 kilograms of fabric!!

Home again with Missy and Felix

The cats were happy to have us home and get back into a little routine of collecting the mail together.

My little shrine

And the loveliness of Japan rekindled some old values of mine and I’ve started to meditate again!

Funnily enough, I wasn’t feeling crochet or sewing when I got back. It was still a little warm to work on my blankets and my sewing machine was broken! But on one afternoon over a cup of tea with some special people, she brought out her cross-stitch project and did that while we talked… and it got me thinking! It’s literally been about 15 years since I did any cross-stitch, and I’ve carried those unfinished projects with me all these years. Time to bust back into it!

KOALA!!!

We had some International Visitors and it’s only fitting that you take International Visitors to see koalas when you’re in Australia!

ECHIDNA!!!

And I just love echidnas! So cute!!

BREAD!!

Lastly there was a trip back to Canberra for visits and bread-making lessons!

So all in all, a pretty action-packed few weeks there. I’m ready to live the quiet life at home for a while and settle back into ‘normality’… whatever that is :D

Stay happy!

Beauty Blue Gift: A Complete Crochet Project

image

It happened!

I’ve reached the official point of being asked to make gifts for other people. Previously l had just made things for people whether they wanted them or not. But I’m enjoying this new approach and have a growing list of gifts to make.

image

This muffler is a gift for a little family member. I’d hoped to make something for her that will last for years both in style and quality. I hope l nailed it!!

image

It turned out so lovely I think I Want to make fo myself… ;D

Secret Garden Skirt

C’est la vie!

Still not home yet, but I’m finally letting myself slow down. I love holidays! But who doesn’t :D

A few months ago now I felt the urge to sew, and whipped up a few skirts. This is one of them!

image

This was a remnant l picked at the local fabric department store, and l was thinking it would become a top.

image

It still might one day, this is a very simple skirt. But for now I have a lovely skirt to wear!

Stay happy!

Pending Creative Stream on its way!

こんばんは!

I didn’t mean to let the whole month of March slip by without a post or three! I have a good reason or two: I’m changing jobs and on an overseas holiday!

image

Mostly Sweetheart and I have been enjoying food and being with friends in Japan! Oh my goodness the food! Did I mention the food?

image

We’ve also done a bit of sightseeing and wandering the department stores. We decided our next trip to Japan might need to include a bit more shopping :D

image

One thing I have always loved about Japan is the beauty in the details. I love getting in close to take some snaps here.

image

Right now we’re ending this trip in Tokyo then heading onto Malaysia and Singapore for some fabric and shoe shopping.

One more week until it’s back to reality. It’s bittersweet – at lwast when I get home I’ll be able to sew!

Stay inspired :)

I’ve got a lot of time to think while keeping on top of things at the moment and not much time to sew and make things. I hope to turn this around soon, but who knows!

I’ve also started to look more towards the fashion catwalks and inspirational people to get my creative ideas flowing. I really liked this talk on TED Talks – it certainly made me start thinking differently and I hope you can take something away from it too!
