Yay! This is using op shop fabric ($7 for 6 meters of it!) and an op shop pattern for 50¢. Namely, the smock-type Learn-to-sew sack I picked because it looked easy rather than flattering, but I don’t think it looks too bad on me 🙂
As it came together I thought it had a very Japanese designer linen look to it – the fabric is certainly not linen but the look of it reminded me of the earthy style of the shift dresses in Japanese sewing books. This made me sew extra slowly and neatly to try and achieve that Japanese-y perfection, and I think I did pretty well.
Now, would I make this again? Maybe… It has some fitting issues around the bust and shoulders and does tend to hang on me, which I just don’t have the figure for that style. But, it was very easy and it’s super comfy to wear. If I did, I would change the neckline to something that suits me better, and make the ties wider – if only because it was such a pain to turn the 1″ wide ties! I’d think I’d also extend the back facing so it doesn’t look so ugly on the hanger, or even try lining it. This pattern was so very easy it could be good to learn how to line.
Ooh oh I’m so excited about this year! 😀
